Fans had to wait five years for the fifth studio album of Koenix. The development the band has gone through since then can be heard on the latest release: the sound has become more modern - and still remains unmistakable. On "Eiland" the four Swiss musicians combine influences from folk rock, ska punk and folktronica to a unique sound. The twelve tracks offer a well-rounded mix of catchy songs and hypnotic dance numbers. Especially the use of exotic instruments makes the album a unique listening experience. There are Irish bagpipes next to an Indian sitar, and the Swiss dulcimer supports shawms, flutes and the hurdy-gurdy. The new drummer Philipp Eichenberger turns out to be a real win.
