TRANSFORM // THOSE AWKWARD // THINGS YOU DID // INTO POETRY You can see him clearly, the rickety prince ..... Volker Buchgraber, shaking his head with a sigh. What has he caught himself up in again? He finds himself in a spiral of shame (,Gullet"), nihilistic hopelessness (,I let myself go"), fear (,Expiring Dates") and panic (,Dating my Faintess"). You can't really choose what keeps you up at night. What can one still hold onto in life anyway? Perhaps to that classic fantasy, those less lost like to believe that everything is going to be all right. Even a chronic misanthrope must eventually find peace (,I'll Find Rest") or at least a like- minded soul (,Whale of My Kind", ,Fragile Soul/ Heavy Heart"). In those few light moments between homeopathic and alcoholic medication, (panicking) euphoria and exhaustingly passing out afterwards, Buchgraber succeeds in finding a clearer language than before. The lyrics on Dust Covered Carpet's third album ,Witness Me Pass out" appear straightforward and amazingly precise. Suitably the band plays pronounced, and although they have grown into a sextet, it is never more than necessary. The playful ,Action- Folk" from the past two albums makes room for a new and concentrated coolness. The band's sound has been cleared out and at the same time has gained wavy baselines and a synthesizer. Each tone is carefully placed into its correct spot; each instrument finds its place to rest. Supported by producer Dino Spiluttini and Alan Douche's mastering techniques (Owen Palett, We were Promised Jetpacks), the snare-drum is hit with the appropriate force and impact. In this respect it was probably just as helpful that the six mid-twens left Vienna together for four weeks to arrange and record in a house (in Hungary this time) with no distractions. Seeing that after this adventure, the band members still remained friends speaks for the therapeutic effect of ,Witness me Pass Out". In any case, there's nothing to be ashamed of.
