The Smith Street Band: My Top 5
In zwei Wochen erschenit das neue Album "More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me" der Lieblingsaustralier THE SMITH STREET BAND auf Uncle M und zwar auf eiergelbem Vinyl. Auf Tour zu uns zieht es die Herrschaften ebenfalls. Grund genug, uns mit Wil zusammenzusetzen und über seine fünf Lieblingsplatten zu reden.
It made me fall in love with music and songwriting. It’s the first album I ever truly loved and listened to from start to finish and is still my favourite record of all time.
02. Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
This record is so weird and dark and haunting and beautiful. The lyrics are perfect, the recording is bizarre but in the best way and I love the story-telling on this record. Incredible album, incredible band.
03. Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
Pavement might be my number one favourite band. Malkmus is such a beautifully nonchalant songwriter. He tosses out these moments of genius like they are nothing. This album is just as fun and interesting after years of listening to it as it was when I first heard it.
04. Why? - Alopecia
Why? are a very unique band. One part hip-hop, one part indie rock, one part almost ambient atmospheric music. All their albums are great but this one is my favourite. Yonni Wolf’s lyrics are clever, funny, sad, cruel and brilliant and the instrumentation is out of this world. So many cool layers and ideas.
05. The Weakerthans - Live at the Burton Cummings Theatre
I love The Weakerthans. I love all their records but there is something so special about this album. Not only is it a fantastic recording of a phenomenal live band but it serves as a greatest hits, capturing all their best songs from their long and amazing career.
