1967 traf sich Dylan regelmäßig mit Musikern seiner 66er backing group ( = THE BAND !) zu lockeren Sessions. Glück, dass die Musiker fast dauernd einen Tape Recorder mitlaufen liessen. Zunächst wurden die tapes als bootlegs verbreitet, ehe Columbia 1975 daraus offiziell ein 24 track Doppelalbum zusammenstellte - 'The Basement Tapes'. Diese Songs haben einen einzigartigen wertvollen Platz in Dylans Werk.
