1. Catch For Us The Foxes - Mewithoutyou
I fell in love with Mewithoutyou when I first heard their "A - B Life" album. They have their own special sound that I dig so much. "Catch For Us The Foxes" was their 2nd record, and I remember going to a Best Buy 30 miles from home to pick it up. I wasn't old enough to drive yet, so I had my older brother Mitch drive me. We jammed it on the way home during a rainy storm. My brother and I tend to talk all the time with each other, but when we put this record on, all we did was listen. He knew I loved the band, but he'd never gave them a shot. Once the record was finished, he goes "HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AWESOME!" My thoughts exactly, MWY did an amazing job on this one. It's a solid tasteful blend of being chaotic yet calm. The guitar work is awesome, and Aaron Weiss is one of my all time favorite lyricists. My brother fell in love with it first listen, and they've been his favorite band ever since.
2. Full Collapse - Thursday
Thursday is one of my all time favorite bands. I remember hearing "Understanding In A Car Crash" on the way to a basketball tournament when I was 14. The intensity of that song, especially at the end, really hit me hard. I could tell that this band had something to say in every song. I'll always respect Thursday for being true and awesome!
3. Alopecia - Why?
We'll jam this at least a handful of times on every tour. It's a record that tends to re-blow my mind every time! It's such a unique album, I would say a breath of fresh air. The first song I heard off it was "Fatalist Palmistry." The opening line "I sleep on my back because it's good for the spine and coffin rehearsal" struck me! I knew right there that this band was interesting and cool! The instrumentation and lyrical content creates it's own special vibe throughout the whole record. You can tell this album was very well constructed, and I appreciate the heck out of it!
4. Doppelgänger - The Fall Of Troy
It's safe to say that I wouldn't be playing guitar the same way if I didn't come across this band. The Fall Of Troy was a solid inspiration for us to be more creative with our music. This is such a high energy record that is solid front to back. I figured out the intro to "I Just Got The Symphony Going" on guitar years ago, and I've probably played that riff at least a million times. Such a fun album! "Laces Out, Dan" is one of my favorite songs of all time!
5. Reinventing Axl Rose - Against Me!
I absolutely love Against Me! Every song on this record is a banger! Laura Jane Grace's voice has always been one of my favorites, and it blends nicely with the music. I remember we covered a bunch of the songs in high school, and it sounded awful! We couldn't pull it off the way they do. Whenever someone puts this record on at a party, the party gets 10 times rowdier. "Pints Of Guinness Make You Strong" is an absolute classic!
